TRAVEL INFORMATION

Getting from Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD) to the Ibis Styles Budapest Center (located at Rákóczi út 58, near Blaha Lujza Square) is quite straightforward. The hotel sits right in the heart of the Pest side, making it highly accessible by both public and private transport.

Here are the best ways to make the trip:

1. Direct Public Express Bus (100E) – Best Balance of Cost & Convenience

The 100E Airport Express is the most popular option. It runs 24/7 directly from outside the airport arrival terminal into the city center.

  • The Route: Take the 100E bus from the airport and get off at the Astoria stop (the second stop). From Astoria, you can either take a quick 10-minute walk down Rákóczi út straight to the hotel, or hop on the Red Metro Line (M2) for one stop to Blaha Lujza tér, which is steps away from the hotel.

  • Frequency: Every 5 to 10 minutes during the day, and every 20 to 40 minutes in the middle of the night.

  • Tickets: Requires a special airport shuttle bus ticket (roughly 2,500 HUF / €6.50). You can buy it at the BKK ticket machines at the airport bus stop or simply tap your contactless bank card at the bus door using the "Budapest Pay&GO" system.

  • Total Time: About 40 to 50 minutes.

2. Regular Public Transit (Bus 200E + Metro M3 + Tram 6) – Cheapest Option

If you already purchased a Budapest Travelcard (which covers standard transit but not the 100E bus), you can use the standard grid.

  • The Route: Board the 200E bus outside the terminal to its final stop, K?bánya-Kispest. Switch to the Blue Metro Line (M3) and ride it to Corvin-negyed. From there, hop on the frequent Tram 4 or 6 heading toward Széll Kálmán tér and get off at Blaha Lujza tér.

  • Tickets: Covered by standard single tickets or any multi-day Budapest Travelcard.

  • Total Time: Around 55 to 65 minutes. It involves multiple transfers, so it is less ideal if you have heavy luggage.

3. Official Airport Taxi (F?taxi) – Fastest & Most Comfortable

Budapest Airport has a strict contract with a single regulated taxi provider, F?taxi.

  • How to book: Do not accept rides from drivers hanging around inside the terminal. Instead, step outside the arrivals hall to the official F?taxi booth. State your destination (Ibis Styles Budapest Center), and they will hand you a receipt with a fixed-range price estimate and your taxi's license plate number.

  • Cost: Usually around 10,000 HUF to 12,000 HUF (€26 to €32), depending on traffic.

  • Total Time: 25 to 35 minutes directly to the hotel door.

4. Ride-Sharing (Bolt / Uber) – Convenient Digital Option

Ride-sharing apps are fully legal and regulated in Budapest. Both Bolt and Uber operate actively in the city.

  • How to use: Order a car via the respective app once you have collected your luggage. The pick-up zones are located a short walk out of the terminal doors into the designated parking lots.

  • Cost: Comparable to standard taxis (around €25 to €35), with pricing transparently tracked in the app.

5. Shared Airport Shuttle (miniBUD) – Good for Solo Travelers with Heavy Bags

The miniBUD is the airport’s official shared shuttle service.

  • How to use: You can book a seat online in advance or at their desk in the arrivals hall. They group passengers heading in the same direction into an 8-seater minibus.

  • Cost: Roughly €17 per person.

  • Total Time: Variable. While it provides door-to-door drop-off right at the Ibis Styles, your travel time depends entirely on how many other passengers are being dropped off before you. It can take anywhere from 35 to 70 minutes.

USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT BUDAPEST

Budapest is one of Europe’s most visually stunning and affordable capitals. Bisected by the Danube River, the city is physically split into two distinct sides: Buda (the historic, hilly side) and Pest (the flat, vibrant, commercial side).

Essential information to help you plan your trip includes:

Top Sights to See

  • The Hungarian Parliament Building (Pest): A Neo-Gothic masterpiece on the edge of the Danube. It is best viewed from a river cruise at night when it glows golden. Tip: If you want to go inside, you must book tickets weeks in advance.

  • Fisherman’s Bastion & Buda Castle (Buda): Located on Castle Hill, this fairy-tale terrace offers the absolute best panoramic views of the city. Go early in the morning to beat the crowds.

  • The Thermal Baths: Budapest is the "City of Spas." Széchenyi is the famous, massive outdoor neo-Baroque complex in City Park. Gellért offers stunning Art Nouveau indoor pools, and Rudas features a 16th-century traditional Turkish bath.

  • The Shoes on the Danube Bank: A deeply moving memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, located just a short walk from the Parliament.

Money, Logistics & Local Customs

  • Currency: Hungary uses the Hungarian Forint (HUF), not the Euro. While cards are accepted almost everywhere, keep a small amount of Forints on hand for public restrooms, small bakeries, and market stalls.

  • Avoid Euronet ATMs: Do not use the bright yellow-and-blue Euronet ATMs scattered around the tourist zones; they charge exorbitant conversion fees. Stick to official bank ATMs (like OTP, Erste, or K&H).

  • Tipping: Tipping around 10% is standard in restaurants. However, always check the bill first—many places automatically add a 10–12.5% service charge (szervízdíj). If it is included, you do not need to tip extra.

  • Beer Toasting Trick: When drinking beer, do not clink your glasses together. Historically, Austrian generals celebrated the execution of Hungarian revolutionaries by clinking beer glasses, so Hungarians traditionally avoid it.

Transportation & Navigation

  • From the Airport: The easiest way into the city center is the 100E Airport Express Bus, which costs about 2,500 HUF (approx. €6) and runs directly to Deák Ferenc tér every 15 minutes.

  • Ride-Hailing: Uber and Bolt both operate legally in Budapest via local taxi regulations. Never flag down an unbranded taxi on the street, as tourists are frequently overcharged. Use the apps to ensure a fixed, fair price.

  • Public Transport: Budapest has a world-class metro, tram, and bus system. Tram 2 runs right along the Pest riverbank and is widely considered one of the most scenic public transit routes in the world.

  • Ticket Warning: If you buy physical single transit tickets, you must validate them in the little orange or black machines when boarding a bus/tram or entering the metro station. Roving ticket inspectors frequently target tourists and issue steep on-the-spot fines for unvalidated tickets.

Food & Drink

  • What to Eat: Try Goulash (a rich beef soup, not a thick stew), Chicken Paprikash, and Lángos (deep-fried dough traditionally topped with sour cream and garlic-cheese). For a great sit-down meal, look for napi menü (daily lunch menus) at local bistros away from the main tourist hubs.

  • Ruin Bars: Located primarily in the Old Jewish Quarter (District VII), these are eclectic bars built inside the ruins of abandoned pre-WWII buildings and filled with mismatched vintage furniture. Szimpla Kert is the pioneer and most famous one.

  • Water: Tap water is 100% safe to drink throughout the city. If buying bottled water at a grocery store, look at the cap color: Pink means still water, Blue means heavily sparkling water, and Green means mildly sparkling.
